When it comes to sports, some fans go the extra mile to ensure they have the best experience. And for one family in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, that meant creating a unique viewing platform for the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club.
Sean Bellew, a resident of Newtown Square, has a home that offers a rare vantage point - a direct view of the first hole's fairway. Recognizing this opportunity, Bellew took it upon himself to plan and build a raised viewing area, aptly named the 'Sky Deck.'
"I wanted to make the most of this incredible view," Bellew explained. "The Sky Deck allows us to witness the entire field as they approach the first green and putt out, all from the comfort of our own backyard."
Initially, Bellew thought his idea was unique, but he soon discovered that many of his neighbors had similar plans. "It's fascinating how a shared passion for golf can bring a community together," he added.
The Bellew family is now gearing up for a busy weekend, expecting a steady stream of visitors throughout the championship. Aidan Bellew, Sean's son, who recently turned 21, has organized parties to celebrate both the tournament and his birthday.
"We're excited to host friends and family, and of course, watch some of the biggest names in golf right here," Aidan said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we plan to make the most of it while being respectful of the players and the course."
Aidan, an avid golf fan, has been following the practice rounds closely and is particularly looking forward to seeing Scottie Scheffler and Cam Young in action.
"The atmosphere is going to be electric, and we're ready to cheer on the players while enjoying the tournament from our very own Sky Deck," he added.
With over 1,000 guests expected over the weekend, the Bellew family's creative approach to viewing the PGA Championship showcases the lengths fans will go to for an unforgettable sports experience.
It just goes to show that sometimes, the best views are found right in your own backyard.
